A GARDEN clubs autumn event showcased many homegrown fruits, vegetables and plants.
The Tiptree Garden Club Autumn Show prizes were presented by the chairman of Wilkin and Sons and the great-grandson of the founder, Peter Wilkin.
The club was surprised by the amount of exhibits however flower entries were affected by the dry weather.
The event was held at Thurstable School where prizes were given.
The club’s publicity officer, Phyllis Woodiwiss, said: “We were pleasantly surprised with the number of exhibits in the vegetable and fruit sections better than expected, but the very dry weather was the cause of a very depleted flower section.
"Usually the hall is ablaze with colour from gaudy dahlias, gladioli and vases of mixed flowers.
“In the best in show sections in the horticultural section there were two large cucumbers, these would have made many rounds of sandwiches.
"Other winners included a beautiful large creamy yellow dahlia and a plate of delicious desert apples.

"In the handicraft section a delightful watercolour of crocuses and a plate of butterfly buns won.
"In the floral art, a delightful corsage suitable for a wedding and a photograph of an ornamental owl sitting on a pot took the best in show in that section.
“We look forward to meeting everyone again for the Spring Show on March 25, same time same place. The new schedules will available on our website in the new year.”
