THE annual Rice and Spice festival has been postponed, following the death of the Queen yesterday.

The postponement comes as an act of respect and commemoration for Queen Elizabeth II.

The event had bee set to take place on Saturday, September 10, from noon to 5pm, at Firstsite’s community garden.

Organisers plan to rearrange the event at a later point this year, to celebrate the diversity of cultures within Colchester.

An organiser for the event said: “Following the sad loss of the Queen, we have reflected on the sensitivity of going ahead with our Festival which is scheduled for Saturday 10th September.

“Our evolving view is that a celebration during a period of mourning would be both insensitive at time when the nation is in mourning. We will reschedule for some time in the new year.”
