THE inquest into the death of a 97-year-old father has been opened by a coroner.
Arthur Butler was admitted to Chelmsford's Broomfield Hospital after suffering an unwitnessed fall at his home in Fambridge Close, Maldon.
A CT scan at the hospital found he had not sustained a head injury but Essex Coroner’s Court heard he had fractured his hip.
While undergoing surgery in hospital he suffered a cardiac arrest and he was subsequently placed on end-of-life care.
Area coroner Michelle Brown said a documentary inquest into Mr Butler’s death will be held on July 17 next year.
