AN empowering evening of music will be staged with the view of creating a safer environment for female gig-goers.

Fierce Sounds will take place at Colchester Arts Centre, in Church Street, from 7pm on September 16 in aid of Safe Gigs For Women.

The essential initiative was established by live music regulars with the aim of ensuring women can feel safe at gigs they attend.

The scheme strives to achieve this by ensuring both venues and audiences are equipped with any information they need to help everybody have fun at shows.

The exhilarating line-up consists of She’s In Parties, an indie dream-pop band from Colchester, and the very punchy grunge quartet Bridget.

Mezzotint, a gothic outfit which specialises in songs for everyone, will also perform, in addition to Lou Brett, who unapologetically tells stories through the female gaze.

Gemma Abbott, who has organised the gig, said: “Folks can come and see some of the best female-fronted music from the local scene.

“And also support both our fabulous Colchester Arts Centre and raise money for Safe Gigs For Women.”

Tickets for the event cost £7 and can be purchased by visiting colchesterartscentre.com or calling the box office on 01206 500900.
