WILL Quince has said it is “time to unite” after congratulating Liz Truss on winning the race to become Britain's new Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party.

The Colchester MP had previously favoured Rishi Sunak over the former Foreign Secretary for biggest job in UK politics, but 81,326 Tory members felt otherwise.

The victory was announced earlier today at the QEII Conference Centre in central London on the same day Parliament returns.

Mrs Truss is now set to replace the outgoing Boris Johnson as the occupant of Number 10, becoming the third woman in history to be unveiled as Prime Minister.

In a statement published by the politician on social media, Mr Quince said: "Many congratulations to Liz Truss on her election as leader of The Conservative Party.

"With the contest over, now is the time to unite behind our new leader and with a laser like focus continue our work delivering for the British people."
