COLCHESTER has been named as one of the best cities in the country for parking, according to a new study carried out by a car finance company.

Motorists in the historic north Essex Roman settlement are said to be spoilt for choice when it comes to the volume of parking opportunities on offer.

Moneybarn has now ranked Colchester as being the third best place in the UK for parking after comparing the number of cars with the amount of NCP parking spaces.

The research findings suggest the area boasts 2,653 NCP parking spaces and 94,478 licensed vehicles which makes for 28.08 NCP spaces per 1,000 cars.

Despite being a somewhat smaller city, the figure is significantly better than the likes of Cardiff, Belfast, Bolton, Leicester, Dundee and Nottingham.

The data also shows Colchester is one of the most affordable places to park in the country, with an average cost of £1.80 per stay, making it the eight cheapest.

A spokesman for Moneybarn said: “With more and more people choosing to drive themselves from A to B, finding a parking space can be easier said than done.

“This made us wonder which UK cities have the best parking provision, and which have the worst.”
