CATCHPOOL Road in Colchester has lived up to its name with a pool of water caused by a leak.

Residents say they have reported the leak several times to Anglian Water but still no action has been taken to repair it.

Nearby resident Sir Bob Russell said: “So much water has escaped that weeds growing in the gutter are a healthy green in appearance.

“It is disappointing that Anglian Water have not taken action to stop the leak.

"Because of the length of time water has been escaping, flowing 24 hours a day for what is now the fourth week, it is likely that the loss runs into thousands of gallons.”

A spokesperson for Anglian Water said: “We are aware of a leak on Catchpool Road in Colchester. This is due to a leaking external stop tap and has been allocated to a repair team to get to as soon as they can.

“With the dry ground conditions continuing to have an impact on our pipe networks, with ground movement, we continue to experience a higher than usual volume of work at the moment.

“As this is a small leak, our teams are having to prioritise work to keep taps running and toilets flushing. Our teams will attend to repair this leak as soon as they can.”
