A SCHOOL has been recognised with a national accolade after demonstrating its ability to teach students essential skills to help them succeed in life.

Mayflower Primary School, in Main Road, Dovercourt, has achieved the Skills Builder Gold Award just one year after enrolling in the programme.

The scheme is designed to develop children’s speaking, listening, problem solving, and teamwork skills, while also encouraging them to aim high and stay positive.

It also acts as a way to nurture the young pupils’ resilience, self-belief and provides them with the tools they need to succeed in their future endeavours.

Teachers at the school have achieved this through lessons and assemblies, praising their children's learning behaviours as well as ensuring self-reflection.

They have also helped them better understand when and how to use the essential skills effectively to help them achieve their goals.

Emily Stephens, from Mayflower Primary School, said: “We have been working super hard on this throughout the school with all staff and children involved.

“We are also super proud we achieved gold status within a year as it is quite rare for schools to get to gold in just one academic year.

“This demonstrates how hard everyone has worked to achieve this feat.”
