MAGISTRATES courts deal with all kinds of offences throughout the week.

And one all-too-common offence seen in the courts is drink driving.

Here is a round-up of some of those who have admitted drink driving in and around Colchester this week.

A DRINK driver who was caught over the limit in Colchester has been banned from getting behind the wheel.

Timur Galias, 25, was found to be over the limit when driving a Vauxhall Insignia in Colchester Road, Ardleigh, on July 30.

Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard he had 40mcg of alcohol in 100ml of his breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Galias, of Haddon Park, Colchester, was banned from driving for 14 months and ordered to pay £700 in a fine and surcharge.

A DRINK driver was caught by police officers who pulled him over while carrying out speed checks.

Stevie Martin, 20, was stopped by officers in St John’s Road, Colchester, when they spotted him driving a Ford Fiesta at 34mph in a 30mph limit on July 22.

Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard when he was pulled over police officers smelt alcohol on his breath, and when he was breathalysed he had 54mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

The legal limit is 35mcg.

Martin, of Heatley Way, Colchester, told the court: “I haven’t got any excuses, I’m really sorry. It was a mistake and I’ve learnt my lesson”.

Chairman of the bench Andrew Campbell banned Martin from driving for one year, stating: “If you fail to abide by this that would be a serious offence which could result in custody”.

Martin, who is self-employed, was also ordered to pay £735 in a fine, victim surcharge and court costs as a result of the crime, which took place at 10.45pm.

“If you fail to pay that off that is a serious offence and you may end up back in court,” added Mr Campbell.

A PEUGEOT motorist who drove while over the legal alcohol limit has been banned from driving.

James Hopwood, 21, was caught with 54 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath on July 31. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard how he was stopped in The Street, Feering, at the time of the offence.

Hopwood, of Honeywood Avenue, Coggeshall, admitted the offence and was banned from driving for one year.

He was ordered to pay £420 in a fine and victim surcharge.

A 35-YEAR-OLD man has been banned from driving after getting behind the wheel while over the legal alcohol limit.

Edwinward Macaraya was caught driving a Citroen C4 Picasso on the A12 at Kelvedon on July 30, despite having 47mcg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Macaraya, of Station Road, Maldon, admitted the offence when he appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court.

He was ordered to pay £491 in a fine, surcharge and costs and was banned from driving for a year.
