THE planned A12 ‘go slow’ protest, organised this morning to protest the cost-of-living crisis, has fallen through.

The protest dissolved after only three cars turned up, with one car stopped by police for not having an MOT.

A Gazette reporter was on the scene this morning at 6.45am, discussing the protest with a spokesperson for the group.

On the reason for protesting, the spokesman said they were protesting over climate change, the Covid vaccine and the Ukraine war.

They further explained that the protest was not just about fuel prices, but about everything the government is doing.

On what they hope to get out of such protests, the spokesperson said: “I like to think that people will see what’s going on and act themselves."

The group refer to themselves as ‘concerned citizens’, reporting that there are more than 100 members across Colchester, with other, similar groups in Braintree and Chelmsford.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "In response to reports of a planned protest on the A12 this morning, officers were in attendance, however no protest activity took place.
"One driver was reported for having an invalid MOT."

Undeterred, the group have instead decided to protest with placards along the Avenue of Remembrance.
