CAMPAIGNERS have called on a Number 10 candidate to nail her colours to the mast as they continue to fight against controversial pylon plans.

Essex Suffolk Norfolk Pylons have vehemently opposed National Grid’s blueprints for 111 miles of 50-metre tall pylons to be installed across three counties.

They are now calling on East Anglian-based MP Liz Truss to step up and reveal her position on the “potential havoc” the plans will impose on the countryside.

“Rishi Sunak says he supports an offshore grid, but we still don’t know if regional MP Liz Truss shares that view,” said Rosie Pearson, founder of the action group.

“Our group and many of our supporters wrote to her in July but none of us have had a response, and that’s very disappointing.

“We need our next prime minister to get to grips with the electricity infrastructure problems affecting East Anglia so badly.”

A petition calling for an offshore grid was launched in May and has since seen more than 22,000 signatures.

Mrs Pearson added: “We are calling for a new electricity transmission review and an offshore grid for East Anglia.

“That would save consumers £6 billion and be far better for both countryside and communities.”
