Drink and drug drivers appear in Essex's lower courts every week.

The offences usually attract a compulsory driving ban and usually results in a hefty fine.

These are some of the drink and drug drivers to appear in magistrates' courts in Chelmsford and Colchester.

  • A MAN who got behind the wheel of an Audi A4 while over the legal alcohol limit has been banned from driving.

Edward Teagle, 34, was caught drink driving in Clacton on August 12. He admitted the charge.

Chelmsford Magistrates' Court heard he had 62mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Teagle, of no fixed address, was fined £120, banned from driving for 17 months and ordered to pay £105 in prosecution costs.

  • A MAN who admitted drink driving in West Bergholt has been banned from the roads.

Peter Gillott, 61, was found to have driven a Ford Focus on July 21 while over the legal alcohol limit.

He had 51mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Gillott, of Chapel Lane, West Bergholt, admitted drink driving at Colchester Magistrates' Court on August 9.

He was fined £276 and banned from driving for 12 months.

He must pay £105 in prosecution costs.

  • A DRUG driver has been convicted and banned from the roads after he failed to attend his trial.

Ivan Alexander, 34, drove a Peugeot 307 in Colchester on July 3 while over the legal limit for THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.

He had 3.5mcg of THC per litre of blood.

He had denied drug driving, but was convicted in his absence at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court.

Alexander, of Clear Water, Colchester, was fined £180 and banned from driving for 12 months.

He must pay £105 in prosecution costs.
