DAVE Challinor admitted Colchester United made it tough for his Stockport County side despite their 1-0 win at Edgeley Park.

The Hatters claimed their first victory over the U's in more than 30 years, thanks to Kyle Wootton's second-half header.

It was Stockport's first league win since their promotion from the National League, last season and boss Challinor said it was good to get the three points.

Challinor said: "Yes it's a step up in terms of the level that we're playing at but we're a lot better than what we've shown.

"You have to credit the opposition...there's a consequence around how opposition teams set up and what they try and do in a game that makes it more difficult for you.

"Our first three league games have been really tough, just in terms of how our opponents have gone about it.

"For us, that becomes us being better at what we do but also being adaptable in terms of finding a way and backing ourselves to do it in a way that suits us.

"If we're turning up and we're playing as I want us to play and we lose games, I hate losing but I'll have to take it.

"Where we are currently to where we can be with the ability that we've got, we're quite a way away from that.

"That's pleasing but I'd like to turn it around more quickly.

"Every game is different and in every game, there will be different challenges but especially here.

"To be fair, the supporters have been brilliant and patient and how we go about things but we'll get better at that.

"It's great to send people home happy because they're a massive part of what we do.

"It was great to have so many people in and give them a win."

Stockport's winner came from Wootton, who came off the bench to powerfully head home Ollie Crankshaw's cross.

Challinor said: "It was a great goal and hopefully he takes a lot from that.

"He should do and he'll be massive for us."

Challinor says he is content with his squad as they look to make an impact in League Two, this season.

However, he admitted there is a chance they could add to their ranks if the right player becomes available.

He added: "I'm happy with the squad that we've got but you're always looking.

"You can never say never but that's not to say that we'll do anything.

"If a player becomes available that can strengthen our squad, then we'd absolutely look at it.

"But saying that, it would have to be a significant one, because as we have seen we have players who are more than capable of playing at this level."
