A GP surgery has reopened its doors after a major refurbishment and expansion works were completed.

The West Bergholt surgery’s 8,000 patients can now benefit from a much improved and expanded range of health care provisions.

The building in Erle Havard Road has been given a complete overhaul so patients will receive care and treatment in a modern facility and staff can work in a healthier environment.

There are now 15 clinicial consulting rooms at the site after seven were created during the works in a bid to provide a wider range of treatments, including physiotherapy, without the need to travel.

The new rooms will also create more space so an extended mix of health professionals can work in the community, including paramedics, nurse practitioners and pharmacists.

Administrative staff also have a new workplace in an attic conversion to help ensure the practice, which is rated good by the Care Quality Commission, to continue to operate smoothly.

Dr Hasan Chowhan, a GP partner who has overseen the renovation work, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our new facility which puts us in a very good place for the future.

“Being able to expand the building means we can offer more services closer to home and the new brighter space is certainly an improvement on the old, out-of-date environment.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming patients here and hope they’ll agree the past eight months of renovation work have been worth it.”

Surgery practice manager Rachel Beales stated she is “thrilled” to be back open for business after services were halted for the majority of this year.

“I want to thank our patients for their understanding over the past few months,” she added.

“We know how important our GP practice is to the community, but in order to achieve this fantastic outcome it was necessary to close so the work could be completed as quickly as possible.

“We’re now open for business again and are thrilled to be seeing patients come in through the doors once more.”
