JUNIOR Tchamadeu believes Colchester United's Carabao Cup derby at Ipswich Town tomorrow night is a 'massive fixture' for both club and fans.

The U's make the short trip up to Portman Road looking to spring a surprise against their League One opponents, in the first-round tie.

Colchester and Ipswich have plenty of connections on the playing front.

Cole Skuse, Luke Chambers, Freddie Sears, Alan Judge, Tom Eastman and Frank Nouble could all feature against their former club, as could ex-U's players Kane Vincent-Young and Freddie Ladapo for Town.

Tchamadeu is looking forward to taking on Town - and the defender says the U's will be doing all they can to try and cause an upset.

He said: "It's a huge fixture for the club, the players and the fans.

"It's a game where we can go and impose ourselves and if we do that, then we can come away with a good result and that's what we'll go to do.

"We want to impose ourselves on Ipswich and try and get the win.

"There's no pressure on us but we put the pressure on ourselves to be the best we can.

"That's our motto for the whole of the season, to try and be the best we can no matter who we play.

"It's obviously a big occasion, a big game and one where we'll try and take the game to Ipswich."

Gazette:

Tchamadeu has started Colchester's first two games of the season at right-back.

The 18-year-old also switched over to left-back in the second half in the 1-1 draw against Carlisle United and provided plenty of attacking threat, for the U's.

"I'm always prepared to play on the left, if I need to," said Tchamadeu, who has made 46 league and cup appearances for Colchester to date.

"I'm sure the gaffer trusts me to do that and I feel like I can do a good job there or the right.

"Using my left foot is something I need to work on and beating players one v one.

"Getting forward is a big part of my game, getting forward and dribbling.

"I feel like I wasn't really able to do that in the first half and impose myself.

"They took the game to us but in the second half, the change of shape helped a bit.

Gazette:

"I was isolated one v one a few times and those are the areas I want to be in throughout the game, taking guys on.

"I'll continue to do that, when I get the opportunity."

Meanwhile, Tchamadeu has praised team-mate Noah Chilvers following his impressive start to the new season.

Chilvers has scored in each of the U's first two matches, continuing his fine form on from the previous campaign.

Tchamadeu said: "Noah is a great player.

"He's an important player for us - he has been in the last few seasons and will continue to be, this season.

"He's a big focal point for our team, getting him on the ball and he just shows every week what he can do.

"He showed it against Northampton in our first game and he did it again (against Carlisle).

"The partnership him and Searsy have is what we need, higher up the pitch.

"They always link up and that's important for us, this season."
