ROWHEDGE residents enjoyed an afternoon of seafood, sun and shanties during their annual seafood picnic which took place at the Lion Quay with a very special visitor.
The annual event is organised by the Rowhedge Heritage Trust, with about 200 people in attendance on the banks of the River Colne.
During the event, residents were visited by the Vr Alberdina, a Dutch Barge built in 1903.
The craft is owned and skippered by Nick Baker, who is a member of the Rowhedge Heritage Trust.
Nick's historical raft glided down the river, accompanied by music from melodeon Jim Lawrence.
The Vr Alberdina brought the seafood to the hungry waiting residents, which was then unloaded and distributed amongst eager diners.
Mr Lawrence, a well-known and loved Colne character, was one of the last Thames sailing barge skippers.
He entertained picknickers all afternoon with his seafaring songs and stories.
