A DRIVER has been fined and handed points on his licence after driving erratically.

William Tinney, of Oak Road, Tiptree, was caught driving without due care or attention in Maldon Road, Great Totham, last December.

The court heard the 53-year-old overtook a car and caused one travelling in the opposite direction “to brake and steer on to a grass verge to avoid a collision”, and “narrowly missed colliding with the witnesses vehicle”.

Tinney admitted the charge at Southend Magistrates’ Court, and was fined £40 and given five points on his driving licence.
