A PASSERBY filmed the moment two men were seen running down a Colchester street with one wielding what appeared to be a knife.

The incident, which happened in East Hill, led to nearby St James’ Primary School going into lockdown.

A video shared on social media shows two men running down the hill.

A parent who witnessed the incident said he had seen one of the men throw a bottle at another man.

Speaking to the Gazette, the witness said he had seen four people chasing another boy down East Hill and into Brook Street.

The footage shows two young men running around a corner, seemingly chasing someone, shouting and swearing, as parents looked on in horror.

One of the assailants appeared to be carrying a knife.

The parent said St James’ Primary School went into lockdown for about an hour during the incident not allowing anyone in or out, for the safety of children.

The Gazette approached St James’ School for a comment, however, no-one responded yesterday.

The concerned parent who captured the footage said: “I didn't expect something like this happening during school run and especially near the school.”

Green Party councillor Richard Kirkby-Taylor said: “I would strongly encourage anyone who has any information about these young men to come forward.

“We cannot condone this explicit level of violence, especially in a crowded area.”

The incident happened on July 7 at about 3pm.

The video has been passed to Essex Police.
