AN attack victim suffered serious head injuries after an assault in Colchester in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Calls were made to the emergency services shortly before 2am after a serious assault took place in Culver Street West, at the junction with Head Street.

A man was taken to hospital for treatment to what were described as "serious" head injuries.

The alleged attacker, an 18-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and is in custody.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "A cordon is in place at the junction while we continue to investigate the incident.

"We have already spoken with a number of witnesses to get their accounts, but we need anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or mobile phone footage of it to get in touch as soon as possible."
