A HOST of summer activities have been arranged for people wanting to explore the great outdoors over the summer months.

The programme, which is being run by Colchester Council and is open to all ages, will include tours which give visitors a glimpse into the wildlife of High Woods Country Park, Westlands Country Park, and Gosbecks Archaeological Park.

Park rangers will be leading the tours to offer their insight for those who have decided to take part in the summer activities in some of Colchester’s green open spaces.

Also on offer as part of the summer series of activities are bat walks, which will take place in both High Woods Country Park and Colchester Cemetery.

There, participants will have the chance to use bat detection equipment, as the noises made by the creatures are so high pitched that they cannot be detected by the human ear.

Councillor Julie Young, who is Colchester council’s portfolio holder for housing and communities, said the uptake for the activities had been good so far.

She said: “This year’s events programme is proving very popular, and these new summer activities offer visitors of all ages the opportunity to enjoy and explore our green open spaces as we move through the seasons.”
