Some of the most dangerous roads in Colchester can be examined thanks to an interactive online map.

CrashMap highlights the location of every collision on the roads in a given period.

The detailed tool shows you not only the severity of the crash – slight, serious or fatal – but also when it took place, the number of vehicles involved and the number of casualties reported.

The data used is taken directly from official government statistics, which is based on records submitted to them by the police.

Hovering the map over the Colchester borough (below), the website reports more than 580 incidents have taken place between 2015 and 2019.

The map below shows all the crashes which have taken place in Colchester town centre, revealing around 150 between 2019 and 2022 Some of the worst affected roads in the town centre are the North Hill, Southway and East Street.

The map can also be filtered to show just fatal crashes.

Across the entire borough, there were five fatal crashes in this time period according to the map.
