DRINK and drug drivers from across Colchester have been banned from the roads.

Cases have been dealt with at both Colchester Magistrates’ Court and Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court in the last month.

Driving while above the drink and drug limits often results in a ban and fine.

Thomas Lucey, 24, of Westwood Hill, Colchester, was found to have 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was stopped in Boundary Road on Match 20.

The legal limit is 35.

Lucey had initially denied the offence but later admitted it at Colchester Magistrates’ Court.

He was banned from the roads for 20 months and fined £160.

Lucey must also pay a £34 victim services charge and £320 costs.

Jacquline Reis, 72, of Rowhedge Road, was found to have 60 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when she was stopped in Old Health Road on June 12.

Reis admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court and was handed a 17 month ban.

Magistrates also ordered her to pay a £120 fine, £34 victim services charge and £105 costs.

Cherylanne Gregory, 36, of High Street, Thorpe le Soken, was found to have 117 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when she was stopped in Lexden Road on April 24.

Gregory initially denied the offence but later changed her plea at Colchester Magistrates’ Court.

She was handed a 26 month ban.

Magistrates also ordered her to pay a £270 fine, £34 victim services charge and £150 costs.

Lee Mahoney, 31, of Scarfe Way, Colchester, was found to have nine micrograms of drug Delta-9 -tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of blood when he was stopped in Haven Road on February 27.

The legal limit is two.

Mahoney admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court and was handed a 12 month driving ban.

He was also fined £500 and ordered to pay a £34 victim services charge and £105 costs.
