A MAN is being held on suspicion of attempted murder after a witness saw a man running from a flat “covered in blood”.

Police are investigating an attack which unfolded at a block of flats in Granary Court, the Hythe, Colchester, on Monday evening.

A woman, who asked not to be named, said her daughter was in the process of moving into a flat when she witnessed the aftermath of the incident.

She said: “They are in the process of moving in and she was taking some stuff round with her boyfriend when she phoned me hysterical to say there had been a stabbing.

“A man had staggered out of a flat and towards her and her boyfriend, he’s pushed him away as this man is covered in blood and he’s tried to run into their flat.”

The woman said neighbours in the building had long complained of issues with “drug taking” and “weapons”.

“That could have been my daughter stabbed,” she said.

“Police wanted her to go back into her flat and stay there because forensics had to come out.

“A man come from downstairs and said ‘Do you need help?’ “There was blood all over the stairs, there was blood everywhere.”

Police confirmed a man, aged in his 40s, is being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “A man has been arrested after a disturbance was reported at a property in Granary Court, Colchester.

“We were called to the scene by colleagues in the ambulance service shortly after 10pm, Monday July 18.

“We arrived and found a man who had sustained a stab wound to his torso. Thankfully his injuries are neither lifethreatening, nor life-changing.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Although our investigation is in its early stages, we believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no wider threat posed to the Colchester community.

“A man aged in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a public order offence. He remains in custody.”
