Pictures taken by the Gazette have shown the toll of the fire at Middlewick this afternoon.
Fire crews were called to Abbots Road this afternoon following reporters of smoke and fire at the Wick.
Three fire engines remained at the scene this evening.
Residents are said to have used garden hoses and buckets of water to fight a field fire.

David Nohar witnessed the fire.
He said: "It started really small, before a big tree went up in flames.
"The flames were so high you could see them from Lidl as my parents were there.
"Residents were using their own water supply to fill up buckets to rush to put the fire out.
"As it was really close to the road, a man with a hose was there for a while fighting the fire trying to protect his home."
Pictures show a huge area of the Wick has been burned in the fire.
Essex Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
Essex Police is also on scene assisting with road closures.
