A number of roads in Colchester will be closed as part of nearly two years of roadworks.

The streets will be reopened in phases and temporary 30mph speed limits and no waiting, no loading and no stopping restrictions will be in place. 

Works will happen over a period of 18 months while work is being done by one.network.

The roads are Crouch Street East, Balkerne Hill Northbound, Balkerne Hill Southbound, Crouch Street West, Rawstorn Road, Head Street, St Johns Street, Osborne Street, Vineyard Gate and Headgate.

  • Church Lane in Colchester will be closed due to sign and bollards works from Monday, August 8, for three days.
  • Carriageway patching works will close Earls Colne Road, Great Tey, for eight days from Monday, August 8.
  • Robinson Road, Brightlingsea, will be closed for 13 days from Monday, August 8, due to carriageway surfacing works being done by M Anderson Co Ltd.
  • Surrick Lane and De Vere Estate, in Great Bentley, will be closed for 33 days from Monday, July 25, due to mains replacement works.
  • Arbour Lane in Wickham Bishops will be closed from the junction with The Street for approximately 80 metres in a south westerly direction.

The area of the road will be closed for 19 days from Monday, August 8, for gas main replacement works from Cadent.

  • Gas main installation works in Maldon will close an area of Maypole Road, Langford Road and Holloway Road for 42 days from Monday, July 25.
  • There will be temporary closures, 30mph speed limits, no waiting, no loading and no stopping introduced in areas of Wickham Bishops and Great Totham from now onwards for superfast installation cabling works are being completed by Gigaclear Ltd.

It may continue for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

Roads effected are Birch Rise, Blacksmiths Lane, Church Close, Church Green, Church Road, Maclarens, Wellands and Witham Road.

Other roads included in the works are Arbour Lane, Back Lane, Maypole Road, School Road, Tiptree Road, Beacon Hill, Braxted Road, Carters Lane, Goat Lodge Road and Kelvedon Road.

  • Carriageway patching works are being carried out by Essex County Council on Witham Road, in Tolleshunt Major, which will close the road for 690m south easterly from the junction with Brick House Road for three days from Monday, July 25.

The road will be closed for five days from Thursday, August 11.

  • Station Road, Cressing, will be closed from its junction with Witham Road, due to carriageway patchings, for three days from Tuesday, July 26.
  • Resurfacing works will also close Station Road, in Earls Colne, for three nights from Monday, August 1, between the hours of 8pm and 5am.
  • No waiting at any time restrictions will be installed at Station Approach, Braintree at the bus stop area and at the traffic island.

A no stopping between 7am and 7pm except buses area will be implemented in Station Approach at Traffic Island, Braintree. The limited waiting areas will be extended in Station Approach, any comments, queries or objections can be sent to SGH.Routes@ essex.gov.uk with the reference TRAF/7931 by Friday, August 5.

  • Fairstead Road, in Fairstead, will be closed for six days from Thursday, August 11, for fibre optic broadband installation works by Gigaclear Ltd.
  • Powers Hall End and Chipping Hill, in Witham, will be closed from a point 50 metres south east of the junction with Saxon Drive for approximately 255 metres in a south easterly direction for 54 days.

The weight restriction on Bridge Street and Newland Street will be temporarily suspended during the closure.

This will start on Thursday, July 21, for 54 days while brickwork repair and timber replacement takes place.
