POIGNANT poems will now be able to be projected throughout a shopping centre after bosses were given the green light by planning bosses.

Lion Walk Shopping Centre, in Colchester, has had its application to install four projectors approved by Colchester Council.

The modern lanterns, which must be white in colour, will be used to beam displays of text onto the grounds and walls of the centre.

More specifically, the Gazette understands the poems will be exhibited in the entrance from the High Street and near Red Lion Yard once the installation is complete.

Planning documents revealed the projector could be in operation from dusk until 10pm.

The projections will be static and will not flash or move.

The planning application said: “The proposals comprise the installation of four projectors within the walkway that connects Red Lion Yard and the High Street, at the northern end of the shopping centre.

“The projectors would display light projections within the walkway, comprising poetry composed in collaboration with the local community.

“The proposals form part of a comprehensive new signage and wayfinding scheme for the shopping centre.”
