AN elderly driver who admitted driving without due care and attention after failing to spot two cyclists has been handed six penalty points.

Gordon Greenleaf, 93, of Church Road, Wickham Bishops, was charged after the incident in Witham Road, Wickham Bishops, on September 8 last year.

Colchester Magistrates’ Court was told Greenleaf, who was driving a Ford Eco Sport, had turned across traffic heading towards him.

Greenleaf failed to see two cyclists and caused both to collide with the nearside of his car.

He admitted driving without due care and attention and was handed six penalty points.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay a £263 fine and a £34 victim services charge.

He must also pay £90 costs.
