COLCHESTER United's players got some more game time under their belt in two 60-minute friendlies against Swansea City this afternoon.

The U's fielded 24 of their players in total in the behind-closed-doors friendlies, along with one unnamed trialist also featuring at the Championship club's training ground.

Colchester went ahead after just ten minutes in the first game with Luke Hannant netting from Ryan Clampin's assist.

Hannant slotted the ball past the keeper, after Clampin had broke down the left and picked the winger out.

Swansea fought back hard and U's goalkeeper Shamal George was forced to make a save from a good opportunity for the hosts.

The Swans then missed a decent chance to equalise but Colchester doubled their lead midway through the second period.

Frank Nouble (pictured below) smashed the ball home from the six-yard line, after Luke Chambers had headed Alan Judge's free-kick into his path.

It meant that Colchester were able to seal victory from the first match.

Gazette:

U's line-up (first game): George, Coxe, Chambers, Smith, Clampin (sub Sayer), Skuse, Hannant, Judge, Newby, Cooper, Nouble.

Fielding a different team in the second game, Colchester started brightly.

They played some excellent counter-attacking football and Noah Chilvers' lobbed effort flew just over the bar.

Chilvers almost broke the deadline again soon after, breaking down the left flank and delivering the ball across the penalty area only for the chance to go begging.

Swansea edged the chances after that and they broke the deadlock, with 15 minutes to go.

Joel Latibeaudiere got the better of Al-Amin Kazeem to nod the ball down and past goalkeeper Sam Hornby, after Kyle Naughton's left-wing cross had been delivered to the back post.

And despite John Akinde and Freddie Sears battling hard up front for the U's, it was to no avail as the hosts claimed a 1-0 victory in the second game.

U's line-up (second game): Hornby, Tchamadeu, Beadle (Terry), Eastman, Kazeem, Marshall Miranda, Chilvers, Huws, Sears, Akinde, Trialist (sub Hutchinson).

Colchester are back in friendly action tomorrow night when they visit Bath City, for another pre-season game.
