A popular pet groomer has been given the green light for its new business in Colchester.

Muttley & Mabel, which is based at The Seedbed Centre in Wyncolls Road, Colchester, offers a pampering service for dogs.

Earlier this year it applied to Colchester Council for permission to change of use of a property in Heckworth Close from offices and warehouse to a dog grooming parlour.

It will also include a dog day care business.

The parlour opened back in 2018 and has proved popular with customers with more than 3,000 people on their books.

The planning statement said: “As the business is based on The Seedbed Centre, we have outgrown our premises and now want to expand the business to include a day care facility for our customers alongside the grooming.

“We feel the addition of the day care facility will enhance our business and offer our customers a 'one stop' solution.

“The Seedbed Centre has given us the platform to help us grow but, going forward, limits what we can further do and also offers us no security of tender as we operate there on licence.”

Colchester Council has now approved the plans.

Some objections were raised about traffic concerns. There were also a number of comments in support of the plans.

One said: “It is an extremely well organised and professional facility offering a first class service.

“I fully support the application to change premises which clearly indicates the success and professionalism of the business it now requires larger premises.

“Drop off and pick up is effectively seamless and well coordinated with no customers kept waiting.

“The premises and surrounding areas are spotlessly clean with clear signage of customer rules.”
