"People really enjoyed it, it was a wonderful show, everyone was up and about dancing," he said.

"All three acts were great.

"We were lucky enough to get a backstage tour thanks to the organisers Liz Hobbs Group.

"We were on Michael Ball's Radio 2 show in January so it was good to reminisce about that.

"The Overtones were lovely guys too, really humble.

"Michael was so friendly, just like he is on the radio."

It was a strong weekend for music in Colchester, with pop superstars Westlife bringing their greatest hits to Castle Park on Saturday.

As part of their tour, the group also played newer anthems from their most recent album Wild Dreams, which features tracks co-written with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Amy Wadge.

Louisa Johnson, who was crowned the winner of the X Factor in 2015 when she was just 17, took to the stage as the support act.

Since her legendary and historic victory on the primetime Saturday night show, the vocalist has worked with a variety of famous producers, such as Clean Bandit.

Speaking following the announcement of their Colchester gig, Westlife said: “After the last 18 months, this tour means more to us than any that we’ve ever done before.”

Formed in 1998, Westlife have since enjoyed global success, registering seven Number One studio albums in the UK and 14 chart-topping singles.

To date, they have sold a staggering 55 million records, making them the biggest selling act of the 2000s, and shifted more than ten million singles.

The band had been due to perform in Colchester back in 2020 but this was delayed due to the pandemic.
