A FORMER bank in Maldon High Street could be turned into a new food takeaway.

A planning application has been made to convert the old Lloyds bank, which closed its doors in February this year.

It was among 47 other branches in the Lloyds Banking Group to close around the UK.

The plan submitted to Maldon District Council is an application for change of use to a hot food takeaway unit, including "minor external changes" to the rear of the property.

The building currently has permission to be used for commercial, business and service purposes such as displaying and selling goods.

If the application is approved, then the building could be used as a hot food takeaway.
