POST Office bosses have hit out at the “traumatic” impact of burglary after a “distraction” raid at a Wivenhoe store.

Essex Police confirmed three men have been arrested after staff reported a burglary at the Post Office, in High Street, Wivenhoe.

Officers confirmed three men entered the shop shortly before 5pm on Monday, before fleeing in a vehicle.

The suspects were stopped following a police pursuit.

A police spokesman said: “We have arrested three men in connection with a burglary in High Street, Wivenhoe.

“It was reported that three men entered a commercial property before leaving in a vehicle.

“The vehicle was located by officers on A12, heading toward London, and stopped.”

Two men, aged 34 and 53, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, while a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, failing to stop and theft of a motor vehicle.

Police confirmed the three men remained in custody for questioning as of yesterday afternoon.

Officers have issued a plea for anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward.

The spokesman added: “We need anyone who saw anything or has any CCTV, dash cam, or doorbell footage to contact us.”

A Post Office spokesman told the Gazette the store was hit by a “distraction” burglary.

He added: “The people who run our Post Office branches provide important services to local communities.

“This type of crime is traumatic for the retailer and we will be supporting the police in their efforts. Arrests have been made.
