COLCHESTER United past favourites showed that class is permanent after donning their boots again for charity.

Layer Road heroes such as Karl Duguid, Jamie Cureton, George Elokobi and Craig Fagan all featured for the Col U Legends team in the Hope for Grace match, at Stanway Rovers FC.

They took on a Hope for Grace side at the event which was staged in aid of five-year-old Grace Beverton, who has a rare genetic disorder.

The Col U Legends team won 5-4 with Cureton and former Braintree Town striker Sean Marks both scoring twice and Fagan also netting.

The likes of Joe Keith, Adam Bailey-Dennis and Carl Pentney also featured for the U's team.

More than £5,000 was raised at the fundraising event in front of a bumper crowd which included former U's favourites Steve Foley, Bobby Hunt and ex-head groundsman, David Blacknall.

A minute's silence was held at half-time of the charity game in tribute to former U's player and chief scout Paul Dyer, who has died at the age of 69.

The Hope for Grace charity fundraiser was supported by Tree of Hope, which is a charity which helps parents fundraise for specialist care not available on the healthcare system.
