Colchester United boss Wayne Brown on summer recruitment

But the U's head coach admits there is no 'quick fix' when it comes to bringing in quality signings, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester have held discussions with players they are interested in bringing to the club, ahead of the 2022-23 campaign but as yet have not made any new additions.

Brown admits they are competing with other clubs to bring in quality signings.

Brown said: "There's a few things bubbling but at the end of the day, you can only real comment on things when they've happened.

"There's loads of stuff that goes on and there's loads of conversations that have been had with players and agents and potential targets.

"But ultimately, they're good players that we're looking to bring in, so good players are going to have options and have other clubs wanting to sign them.

"It's never really a quick fix."

Colchester brought in former Leyton Orient boss Ross Embleton (pictured above) as their head of recruitment, earlier this month.

The former Spurs and AFC Bournemouth academy coach has been working closely with Brown to try and land the players on the U's summer shortlist.

"Ross has been working hard with us, over the last couple of weeks," said Brown.

"His experiences at this level can only be of benefit to us as a football club.

"It'll be a really good appointment for us, not just us in the management team and coaching staff but at the football club.

"I think he'll be a real asset to the football club and I'm looking forward to working with him.

"Being head coach is definitely a full on job and you do have a number of things to do every day which you probably didn't think you would have to do.

"But the more quality staff that we can get in, the more staff that have had experience of it and know exactly the pressure and the workload that goes into it.

"That can only be of benefit for the football club, having someone with the knowledge and experience that Ross has to come in and help us out."
