COLCHESTER United released a number of players who were out of contract, last summer.

The Gazette takes a look at the 11 first-team squad members who left the JobServe Community Stadium, last May.

JEVANI BROWN

BROWN has just enjoyed a fantastic first season with Exeter City, helping them secure promotion from League Two.

The 27-year-old made 49 league and cup appearances for the Grecians, scoring seven times.

Brown made 62 league and cup appearances for Colchester, after joining them from Cambridge United in the summer of 2019.

The attacker scored 11 goals for the U's, all of them in the 2020-21 campaign.

LUKE GAMBIN

GAMBIN is now playing his football in Malta for Ħamrun Spartans, whom he joined last summer upon his release by Colchester.

The 29-year-old attacker was released by the U's following a two-year spell at the JobServe Community Stadium, making 50 league and cup appearances for the club and scoring twice.

Gambin, a Malta international, finished the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Newport County from the U's.

CALLUM HARRIOTT

HARRIOTT is still without a club following his release by Colchester, last summer.

The 28-year-old winger spent nearly two years at the U's after joining them on a free transfer from Reading.

He made 64 league and cup appearances for the U's, scoring 12 times and was Colchester's leading scorer in the 2020-21 season.

Harriott also had a spell on loan at Colchester from Charlton Athletic, in the 2015-16 season.

TOM LAPSLIE

LAPSLIE has been plying his trade for National League side Torquay United, this season.

He has made 31 appearances for the Gulls, having joined them last summer following his released by the U's.

Lapslie was always a committed performer for Colchester over the years.

The 26-year-old more than 150 league and cup appearances for the club since progressing through the academy to make his senior debut at Cardiff City, in 2015.

HARRY PELL

FORMER Colchester skipper Pell joined League One side Accrington Stanley upon his departure from Colchester, last summer.

The tenacious midfielder played 41 games for John Coleman's side in his first season with the club, scoring eight times.

Pell left Colchester after three years last summer, having made nearly 100 league and cup appearances for the club.

The 30-year-old former Cheltenham Town midfielder, 29, spent the 2020-21 season as U's captain and scored 13 times.

COURTNEY SENIOR

LUCKLESS Senior experienced a hugely frustrating season on the sidelines after joining League Two side Newport County on a one-year deal, last summer.

He suffered a a serious cruciate ligament injury in pre-season which ruled him out for much of the campaign.

Senior was released by Newport last month, having not made a senior appearance for the Exiles.

The 24-year-old made nearly 150 league and cup appearances for the U's scoring 14 times after joining them from Brentford in the summer of 2016.

OMAR SOWUNMI

DEFENDER Sowunmi has just enjoyed a productive first season in the National League with Bromley, under former U's keeper Andy Woodman.

He made 29 league appearances for the club and was part of their FA Trophy-winning side, following their 1-0 win over Phil Parkinson's Wrexham side in last month's final.

Sowunmi struggled for game time during his time at Colchester.

The 6ft 6in defender made 20 starts for the U's after joining them in the summer of 2019, from Yeovil Town.

PARIS COWAN-HALL

COWAN-HALL is currently without a club following his release by Colchester.

The 31-year-old made 18 league appearances for the U's during his two years at the club, but only four of them were starts.

JOSH BOHUI

BOHUI has most recently been plying his trade for Southern League Premier Division South club Chesham United.

The former Manchester United youngster has also had spells in the non-league with Waltham Abbey, Hayes & Yeading United and Leatherhead, along with League of Ireland Premier Division club Sligo Rovers.

Bohui came off the bench for Colchester's final two games of the 2020-21 season, scoring against Salford.

But he struggled for game time at the U's, having joined them on a free transfer in October 2020.

DIAZ WRIGHT

WRIGHT departed Colchester last summer having made only 14 first team appearances for them in five years.

The U's academy product had suffered injury problems during his final two seasons at the club.

CALLUM COULTER

GOALKEEPER Coulter joined National League side Aldershot Town upon his release by the U's, last summer.

The 21-year-old has had loan spells at Burnham and Lymington, since joining the Shots.

Coulter spent three years at the U’s and although he did not make a senior appearance during his time at the JobServe Community Stadium, he nevertheless spent much of last season in Colchester’s first-team squad and was regularly involved on matchday.
