A NEW visual art show will be taking centre stage as part of an exhibition at this year’s Harwich Festival.

The Exploring the Sublime exhibition will be put on by the Aletheia Art Collective, which is returning following its popular debut exhibition last year.

The collective is a group of local artists who live and work in Suffolk and Essex.

A spokesman said: “This year they’ve contributed and collaborated on an exhibition exploring the philosophical concept of the sublime.

“The contributing artists are contemporary and experimental in their approach, employing a variety of media, including painting, installation, photography, assemblage and virtual reality.”

The contributors to the exhibition include Christine Alexander, Michelle Bowden, Larain Briggs, Daisy Limond, Jamie Limond, Adam Riches and Mark Sampson.

The free exhibition runs from June 22 to July 24 at the Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre in Main Road, Dovercourt.

It will be open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 11am to 4pm. It will also be open on Sunday June 26 and July 3 from 11am to 4pm.

Dovercourt Art Club will also be hosting exhibitions for 11 days at the Esplanade Hall in Harwich.

A preview event will be taking place on June 22, from 7pm to 9pm, and will be opened by Harwich mayor Ivan Henderson.

It will then be open from June 12 to July 3, from 10am to 4pm.

The club saw an increase in its membership since the pandemic and they are keen to show off their work, which is in many different styles.

Sharon McGarry, from the club, said: “We have local artists with many pictures in different styles.Because of Covid we have not had a exhibition for a couple of years.

“Our club is looking forward to this exhibition and we welcome everyone to our preview evening.”
