BREWERY bosses are hoping to be given the greenlight by planning officers to revamp its beer garden despite previous concerns from residents.

Rovers Tye, in Ipswich Road, Colchester, could soon be home to a new garden area and external bar after Greene King submitted blueprints to Colchester Council.

The application also details a desire to install a canopy with fixed seating, new planters, and a timber pergola along with festoon lights.

Due to the structure being a listed building, additional permission will need to be granted before any work could begin.

The consultation period for the applications will end on June 30 before planning bosses consider the proposals and make a decision.

The pub’s latest bid for a beer garden comes nearly three years after concerned residents objected to similar plans put forward by the venue.

Colchester councillors representing the Highwoods ward also opposed the application through fear crime and disorder at the pub and in the area would increase.

Voicing their concerns at the time, one resident who lived on the St John’s estate said: “If an outside bar leads to an increase in nose it would be very disturbing.”
