TRAFFIC delays are expected to continue today after the emergence of a sinkhole near a busy roundabout.
A lane remains closed at the top of Balkerne Hill, Colchester, at the junction with Crouch Street after the sinkhole appeared yesterday morning.
Essex Highways has stated this morning emergency repairs continue to be carried out at the scene metres from the Maldon Road roundabout.
After reviewing underground utilities and checking with one of our Utilities Services Technicians we have started carrying out excavations on Balkerne Hill, @yourcolchester we'll provide further updates as we receive them. pic.twitter.com/otaJc0tz4V

In a statement yesterday, Highways, which maintains the county’s roads, said it is aware of the issue and has made the area safe while works are undertaken.

A spokesman said: “We apologise for any traffic delays, however our priority is to keep road users safe while we investigate the cause.”
