EMERGENCY services received a callout to New Town after a fire broke out at an address in Wimpole Road.

Two fire engines were in attendance at approximately just after 7am on Thursday morning, with around ten members of the fire brigade at the scene.

The fire was extinguished by just after 7.30am, according to an official statement released by Essex Fire and Rescue Service.

Wimpole Road was inaccessible via Kendall Road whilst the fire engines were deployed.

Traffic cones were also laid out across one lane of Wimpole Road as members of Essex Fire and Rescue Service prepared to depart the scene.

A spokesman from Essex Fire and Rescue Service said the fire, which also spread to a car, is not thought to have been started deliberately.

He said: “Crews were called to a vehicle fire on Kendall Road in Colchester at 7:02am.

“On arrival, Firefighters confirmed one car was 50% alight.

“Two crews from Colchester worked quickly to extinguish the fire by 7:33am.

“The fire is thought to have been caused accidentally.”
