SCORCHING weather due to arrive later this week has seen GPs release official advice so people can remain safe as temperatures soar.

Current forecast suggest Friday could get as warm as 32°c in north Essex, although a breeze is expected throughout the day.

Children and toddlers in particular are at risk of suffering from severe sun burn or sun stroke, and doctors have released specific advice so people can remain safe.

Dr Hasan Chowhan, a Colchester GP and chairman of NHS North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said children should wear sunhats and parents should attach sunshades to pushchairs.

He said: “Babies less than six months old should be kept out of direct sunlight and older infants should also be kept out of the sun as much as possible.

“Attach a sunshade to your baby’s pushchair, make sure your child wears a sunhat and apply a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 to your baby’s skin.

“And please remember, if you use an asthma inhaler don’t leave it in direct sunlight or somewhere it could get hot, such as a car glove box.

“This could prevent it working properly.”
