COLCHESTER'S first Musicircus event proved to be a big hit and a celebration of sound for the town’s music fanatics.

The event was the first of its kind in Essex, with more than 250 performers on the day, reporting huge levels of footfall passing through the town centre.

The free community event saw performers simultaneously create a wall of sound which flooded the streets of Colchester, for all to enjoy.

With performers from Eld Lane, to Sir Issacs Walk, to Culver Square and Culver Street, Colchester was completely immersed in sound.

Involving a wide range of Colchester residents, performers ranged from local professionals, to schoolchildren and musical artists.

More than 250 artists were dotted around Colchester on the day, sharing their musical talent for passersby to hear.

The wide range of performers provided the streets of Colchester with a celebration of music, based on a concept formed in 1960’s, by American Composer John Cage.

The event was designed to engage residents, providing a soundtrack to their day, as they shopped in the newly anointed city

The aim was to either allow them to sit back and enjoy the wall of sound or follow the trail and pick out the performer that piqued their interests the most.

Carla Hales, the founder of the event said, “It’s been such a wonderful day – everyone has enjoyed themselves immensely.

"Our thanks go to all the performers who gave up their time, our sponsors and partners such as Essex Music Services, Lion Walk and In Colchester BID and our delivery partner KAT Marketing.

“The range of instruments that have been played today and seeing what has been a dream of mine become a reality is truly humbling and we hope to make it annual event for Colchester.”

Sarah Louise, one of the Colchester Musicircus performers, said, “We had an amazing time performing for such a historical event in my own home town of Colchester, making memories and music with people is what I love to do most.”
