A CAMPAIGN to see a community swimming pool built in a village is hoping to reach a target of £220,000.
Villagers in Great Tey are continuing their push to see a derelict pool at a primary school revamped.
Supporters raised almost £54,000 by organising events and sourcing grants and pledges.
They launched a fundraising page in the hopes of bringing in an additional £5,000.
With days to go before the page expires on June 10, the fund stands at around £1,800 after it was boosted by donations from the village’s jubilee fayre.
The Great Tey Community Swimming Pool Committee plans to continue with its campaign with the aim of reaching the £220,000 cost of the project.
The pool would be available to the residents of Great Tey and neighbouring villages.
Pupils from the village primary school and other schools would use the pool during the day, with people of all ages having access during the holidays, evening and weekends.
The Diocese of Chelmsford owns the land and is backing the project to create the community asset, as is Swim England – the national governing body for swimming in England – which says there is a lack of facilities in the area.
