Colchester's Tory MP backs Johnson ahead of confidence vote

The Conservative MP for Colchester, who was elected in 2015 and then re-elected in both 2017 and 2019, published a tweet just before 9am voicing his support for Johnson.

My constituents want and deserve their Government focusing on our economy, the cost of living and the war in Ukraine.

I continue to back @BorisJohnson as Prime Minister as we continue delivering on the priorities of the British people.

With 54 Conservative MPs having now submitted letters of no-confidence, a vote has been triggered for this evening where all 359 Conservative MPs must vote on whether or not they back Johnson.

Johnson will be forced to stand down as Prime Minister if more than half of Conservative MPs vote against him in this evening’s vote.

Quince’s latest vow to support Johnson continues a trend where the Colchester MP has stood by the PM.

In February, Quince welcomed Johnson’s apology after it was announced the PM was to be investigated for parties in Downing Street which breached lockdown rules.

And in April, Quince reiterated that he would stand by the Prime Minister, saying: “I support the PM and the Chancellor as we deliver on the priorities of the British people.”
