PICTURES of past jubilee celebrations in Colchester will light up the town’s iconic castle.

The move is part of Colchester Council’s civic Jubilee celebrations and will start at dusk where the front of the Ccstle will be turned into a celebration of residents’ photos of past jubilee celebrations, alongside animated graphics of Union Jack flags, bunting and fireworks.

The area directly in front of the castle, inside Castle Park, will remain open for the public to view the projection at close quarters.

Colchester mayor Tim Young, said: “This state-of-the-art display is another fitting tribute for Colchester to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

“I hope it will provide an opportunity for people to enjoy the local pictures and animation, thinking about Colchester’s long-standing links to royalty and celebrating this royal occasion.

“Thank you to everyone that sent us pictures of past jubilee celebrations to include.”

Residents are encouraged to view the lighting of the beacon in Upper Castle Park at 9.45pm today then view the projection on their way to exiting the park.
