Essex Police’s roads team patrol routes big and small across the county in a bid to tackle crime and keep residents moving.

As people take to the roads in their droves every day, a wide variety of issues come up which need dealing with.

Here’s a look at some of the more peculiar incidents police officers dealt with this week on our roads.

A DRIVER had a lucky escape after a lapse in concentration saw them leave a major road and pile into greenery.

The car was found by police officers in bushes next to the A12 yesterday with the driver remarkably uninjured.

A police spokesman said: “The driver of this vehicle had a very lucky escape yesterday after rolling their vehicle off the A12 and was completely uninjured.

“This highlights what can result from a momentary lapse in concentration.”

POLICE officers caught out 20 speeding drivers during targeted checks across Colchester.

The force was out in Boxted and Layer de la Haye on Tuesday undertaking the speed enforcement operation.

Gazette:

Officers issued 20 tickets in total for drivers clocked for speeding, with the highest speed being 42mph in a 30mph limit.

Taking to Twitter, Essex Police’s roads team said: “Officers [were] out today speed enforcing @EPColchester as part of #VisionZero.”

AN uninsured driver has had their vehicle seized after being stopped by eagle-eyed police officers.

The force stopped a Vauxhall Astra in the Greenstead estate, Colchester, after the vehicle flagged up as having no insurance during a patrol on Tuesday.

Gazette:

Officers realised the driver had no insurance after failing to meet monthly payments but had decided to dangerously get behind the wheel anyway.

He was reported by Essex Police’s roads team and the vehicle was seized by the officers.
