Colchester Council has issued an update on bin collections across the jubilee weekend.

Dozens of street parties will take place across Colchester during the jubilee weekend.

Hundreds of people are expected to turn out for the four-day celebrations from Thursday to Sunday.

Colchester Council has confirmed there will be no changes to collection days for bins and recycling over the bank holidays.

A spokesman said: “Colchester’s recycling will continue to be easy this Jubilee bank holiday weekend with no changes to collection days.  “All collections will take place as normal.”

The council has also issued advice on how to have an eco-friendly bank holiday weekend.

The advice says:

1. Decorations

Consider the environment and where possible save and re-use your bunting, banners, fancy dress, foil platters, picnic cutlery and crockery for another occasion.

2. Food waste

Please use up leftover food instead of throwing it away. Share with neighbours and friends, freeze what you can, or donate to a local community fridge. Love Food Hate Waste has some great tips.

Remember that any food that needs to be chilled shouldn’t be left out of the fridge for more than four hours. Check out the Food Standards Agency’s tips and guidance on making sure food is safe to eat at your party.

3. Garden waste

If you are planning on enjoying some time in the garden over the long weekend, compost as much of it as you can at home or use your bin/sack to recycle your garden waste. Find out more about composting here.
