A NEW chain of Greggs has opened in Colchester as part of the Stane Retail Park development.

Opening at 7am this morning, there are now five branches of Greggs across Colchester, with two located in the town centre, one in Stanway, and another in St Christopher Road in the north-east of the town.

The fast-food chain, which has created 18 extra jobs following the opening of its new store, is well known for its sausage rolls, vegan sausage rolls, and steak bakes.

The branch is one of approximately 2,100 across Britain, with the chain also attracting six million customers each week.

The new Greggs will be open from 7am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and then from 8am to 5pm on Sundays.

Stane Retail Park has attracted many other retailers and chains in addition to Greggs, with the development poised to open a controversial new Marks and Spencer supermarket later this year.

But a spokesman for Greggs said the chain was very happy to have opened its doors to customers at the budding retail location.

He said: “We can’t wait to welcome both Greggs fans and new customers to our brand-new shop. We’ve got an amazing range of tasty bakes, hot drinks, sweet treats and savouries available for takeaway or click and collect.”

Gillian Long, Retail Operations Director for Greggs, said: “Our new shop in Colchester has brought 18 new jobs to the local area, as well as providing customers with a modern, convenient new place to experience their favourite Greggs food.”

A sixth chain of Greggs will also open at a later date as part of the Northern Gateway Leisure Park.
