COLCHESTER High Steward Sir Bob Russell has made a public call out to Essex County Highways urging them to deal with bushes obscuring a pedestrian crossing in Colchester.

Sir Bob said the crossing, on the approach to Maldon Road roundabout from Crouch Street across Balkerne Hill, has become overgrown with shrubs which now stretch into the road.

As a result of the shrubs disordered growth, pedestrians are blocked from the view of drivers on the outside lane, potentially posing severe risk.

Sir Bob said: “I am not the only one who has drawn attention to the fact that the overgrown shrubs, delightful though they are, need pruning so that pedestrians waiting to cross are not hidden from the view of drivers in the outside lane.

“I am guessing that Highways officials do not walk around Colchester or otherwise they would see for themselves."

A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: “Essex Highways maintains this land with the help of partners in Colchester and we have contacted those partners to take swift action.”
