IF you were looking for late drama, the JobServe Community Stadium was the place to be this season.

And more often than not, Colchester United were the beneficiaries of last-gasp goals.

Incredibly, there were goals scored in the 85th minute or later in ten of the U's home matches, in the 2021-22 campaign.

And of those games, there are moments in the dying moments that stick more firmly in the memory than others.

Here are five games where Colchester hit the net in the closing stages, this season.

Gazette:

1 COLCHESTER UNITED 1 SWINDON TOWN 1

January 29, 2022

WHO could forget Emyr Huws' incredible last-gasp equaliser for nine-man Colchester United, against promotion-chasing Swindon Town?

The U's were trailing to Harry McKirdy's strike and were seriously depleted, with Shamal George and Luke Chambers both given their marching orders after half-time.

However, Huws converted Owura Edwards' corner at the far post to rescue a point for the hosts, amid crazy scenes at the Community Stadium.

2 COLCHESTER UNITED 1 TRANMERE ROVERS 0

March 26, 2022

JUNIOR Tchamadeu was the unlikely hero for Colchester - in the fifth minute of time added on.

The teenager came off the bench to slam home from the edge of the area, after Alan Judge had hooked Tom Eastman's pass into his path.

It was Tchamadeu's first-ever professional goal and one that he will not forget in a hurry.

Gazette:

3 COLCHESTER UNITED 1 PORT VALE 0

March 5, 2022

COLCHESTER'S game with Port Vale looked like it was heading for a goal-less draw until Tom Dallison intervened.

Dallison headed home Noah Chilvers' corner in the 85th minute to score Colchester's crucial winner.

It was the 26-year-old's first goal since joining them from Crawley Town in January and the first time he has found the net since February, 2021.

Gazette:

4 COLCHESTER UNITED 1 MANSFIELD TOWN 1

August 17, 2021

COLCHESTER looked like they were heading for a 1-0 defeat against promotion-chasing Mansfield Town, after former U's loanee Elliott Hewitt had nodded in for the visitors.

The U's had not scored in their opening three games of the season and faced the prospect of a fourth without a goal, until Freddie Sears intervened.

The Colchester striker made no mistake from the spot in the fifth minute of time added on, after Frank Nouble had been fouled in the area.

Gazette:

5 COLCHESTER UNITED 1 BRISTOL ROVERS 1

October 19, 2021

NOAH Chilvers salvaged a point for Colchester United against Bristol Rovers with an 88th-minute equaliser.

The U's had trailed to Brett Pitman's strike and the visitors were down to ten men, following Cian Harries' red card.

But Chilvers popped up to score, before Junior Tchamadeu and Trevor Clarke were both given their marching orders, in an eventual finish.

The late goals did not always go Colchester's way, though.

Gazette:

The U's conceded painful late equalisers in home games against both Leyton Orient and Carlisle United, both of which finished in 2-2 draws.

And Gillingham grabbed a 90th-minute winner through Robbie McKenzie in their Papa John's Trophy win at the Community Stadium, back in September.

But Colchester were generally the main beneficiaries of late home goals, securing points with last-gasp strikes in a total of seven home games, this season.
