A FOOTBALL club has advised concerned residents to film car enthusiasts causing a nuisance and forward the footage to the police.

It comes amid complaints made by locals calling for action to be taken against boy racers drag-racing at Colchester United’s JobServe Community Stadium.

A Colchester United spokesman said these are the first complaints of this nature the club has heard for years.

He said: “We will work closely with the police on a scheme whereby they act upon evidence provided and issue Section 59 warnings, which basically state one more strike and the vehicle is seized.

“The police had signage up around the perimeter of the south car park regarding this.

“We have helped to provide CCTV evidence resulting in at least two warnings being issued. This certainly had a big impact at the time and we were working closely with Colchester Council at the time too.

“We would also encourage any members of the community, if they feel it is safe to do so, to get video footage and vehicle details to assist the police.

“As you can appreciate, our cameras are generally not manned so we do not always manage to get quality footage or details.

“The assistance from those making the complaints can help.”
